‘Ballot papers are yet to be circulated...but since voting doesn't close until 11th April...plenty of time to hear from the candidates/ask questions...
Congratulations and thanks to all the candidates for standing...shows the interest in the Association and its activities...
Who'll get elected? It's up to the members to decide... The presidential race sees Kevin at the starting line yet again, but the distance has proven difficult in the past, so it'd be hard to go past Derek...
In the 5 way race for the two Board positions, the 'young/energetic/freshness' of Damian and Kate might see them get past the post, though the experience of Margaret might sway some? Graham and Richard...probably will find the going tough...
BUT...tis early days yet...and 'one persons' summary doesn't make it a done deal...it's up to the MEMBERS (ie YOU!!!) to have their say...so....let the race begin!!! And good luck (and thanks again) to those standing to represent us all in the Associations business and activities!!!’
This email was sent to the ALIA Vic. e-list last week by the well known email writer and e-list raconteur, Trevor Wakely. It would appear that either some candidates or their supporters are being a bit too precious about it.
If anyone, of the seven people named in the email, should have an issue with Trevor it should be me. He has said I really don’t have much of a chance. Am I getting upset about it – no way. I took it the way he meant it and had a laugh. It is a shame that others don’t view things the same way I do.
Me thinks we have not heard the last of this. So stay tuned.

Regarding ALIA politics, someone on one of the e-lists commented about what they saw as lack of interest in the association from its members. Important issues are being raised, but very few members feel moved to comment on them. I can't speak for anyone else, and this remark isn't directed at anyone, but my policy is to never comment about issues unless I understand them adequately. In other words, it's not that I don't care, but I don't know. Maybe because I work in a one-person library, I don't have my ear to the ground on these matters.
